Pakistan Cricket Board has undergone a management change and a change in the PCB seldom comes with a change in the Pakistan Cricket management too. Recent elections in the PCB have resulted in the appointment of its new chairman Mohsin Naqvi and as expected after the change in power in the PCB, its trickle-down effect has already started.
First Haris Rauf’s central contract was terminated for making himself non-available for the test series in Australia and now Mohammed Hafeez has faced the axe of the regime change in PCB.
Mohammed Hafeez was appointed as the Pakistan team’s director of Cricket and was also the de facto Head Coach. But in an official statement by the PCB it was announced that they are parting ways with Mohammed Hafeez as the team director and the tweet also extended heartfelt gratitude to Mohammed Hafeez for his services.
Mohammed Hafeez also came out with his official tweet where he informed fans about his tenure with the Pakistan team which was cut short from 4 years to 2 months due to a change in the regime in the PCB.
Mohammed Hafeez tweeted on X, “I accepted the new role as a director PCB with great passion to make positive reforms but unfortunately my designated tenure which was offered by the PCB for 4 years was cut short for 2 months on the account of new chairmanship."
Former PCB Chairman’s confusing stance on Mohammed Hafeez’s appointment
Hafeez was assigned the dual responsibilities in November, but it was never clarified how long his tenure would last. The interim administration at that time, headed by Zaka Ashraf, was strictly prohibited by the government from making long-term appointments. Although a four-year term may have been proposed, considering the political uncertainty preceding the elections, it seemed improbable that a long-term position would ever become feasible.
However, Hafeez also indicated a rebuttal on the whole fiasco as he said that he would open up more about the confusing appointment and terminate it in future. Hafeez tweeted, “Best wishes for Pakistan cricket future," Hafeez said. "As always, I foremost take responsibility and put myself accountable for all my executions in my given time and will accordingly reveal all the cricketing and other amateur non-cricketing facts which ensure bad performances. Stay tuned…"
Hafeez will be seen taking up the role of TV analyst for PSL from Saturday and fans are expecting that his recent tweets mean something more and that he will give more details about what transpired in the Pakistan team and between him and the PCB during his stint with the TV during PSL.
