The Boxing Day Test has been won convincingly by Australia as they clinch yet another series at home with one game to go against Pakistan. There were a lot of great performances to witness in this iconic Test match, but the real hero of the match was none other than Australia skipper Pat Cummins. Cummins' 10 wicket haul was one of the best performances from an Australia pacer at the Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG). With this performance he also ends up as the leading wicket taker in the series with 13 wickets. There is no doubt that 2023 has also been an iconic year for Cummins as he has also won the WTC and the World Cup as well.

Pat Cummins is currently the highest ranked Australian bowler in Tests and has got to over 250 wickets in Tests entering the Top 10 highest wicket taker in Test matches for Australia. With over 400 international wickets he makes the top 10 for his team in international as well. Overall it has been a great career for the 30 year old pacer from New South Wales as he creates history not only as a fiery pacer, but also one of the best captains in international cricket right now. There have been a lot of praises for Cummins even by the former greats in the world, who like how he has proved himself on the big stage.

Michael Vaughan acknowledging him as one of the greats

Former cricketer turned commentator Michael Vaughan is one of the toughest people to please and normally is known for his harsh criticism especially for an Australian. Surprisingly he had something positive to say about the current Aussie skipper on Fox Sports saying “In years gone by, he’s certainly going to be talked of in the same breath as Glenn McGrath and Dennis Lillee. That bowling average is low now, but I think it will get better". This is evident enough that Vaughan has compared Cummins to not only one of the greatest Australian pacers in the world.

To support his statement Vaughan gave a brief explanation of how he has improved as a bowler in his career stating “I reckon early in his career he was luckless. He didn’t get a lot of wickets in the first part of his career. He just bowled a fraction short, but he beat the bat a lot. It took him a while for him to get the big numbers up, but he hasn’t looked back the last couple of years. He’s going to be one of the all-time greats." This statement by Vaughan proves that Cummins has achieved a lot as a bowler and captain to be remembered as one of the best.
