The Indian squad has been announced for the India vs England Test series for the final three Test matches. The Indians will be set to play the 3rd Test match in Rajkot where they will be looking to take the lead in the series which is right now in the balance at 1-1. With the absence of Virat Kohli from the series the likes of Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan still make their place in the squad. Despite the absence of Virat, the Indians will still be relieved that KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have recovered a will be fit enough to play in the upcoming matches. There is still the absence of Shreyas Iyer which will force the team to find a perfect replacement in his position.
There is already a threat in the team for the player when he is dropped and misses out on the match, but the toughest job in the team is still for the skipper, who has to lead from the front on and off the field. On this occasion, it is Rohit Sharma who is trusted with the reigns of leadership. Rohit has already had a successful record as captain of the side especially in Test cricket. He has led the side in 11 Test matches so far and has a win rate of 54.54%. Even his record in ODI’s and T20I’s have been equally impressive. Rohit Sharma is already one of the successful leaders for the Indian cricket team and has had to make some tough decisions during his reign so far even in the ongoing series as well.
Rohit in his role as India's captain
Rohit has already led the national side in over 150 international games and has led the side in the World Test Championship final, 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup. He has already impressed everyone in his 2 years as the India skipper and will most likely lead the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup as well. Rohit has spoken on his role as a leader on the squad selections as well saying “ It is probably the hardest job of the leader to get everyone to do what you want them to do”. With this, he also describes the mindset of the players and always looks to try to get the best of the players playing in the squad.
The India skipper also says that he tries to make sure everyone is treated equally in the team and tries to connect with the players individually stating “The most important thing is to try and treat everyone equally and give everyone that importance. Give them role clarity that what is their role." These are the wise words from the current India skipper, who has proven through these words why he is one of the most successful captains in cricket right now for both his franchise and his country. The final 3 Tests will still be important for the team and the crowd will want to dominate the England team once again in their own home ground.
