Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

There is still a lot of talks regarding the T20 World Cup which will be held in the United States and the Caribbean on what will be the final Indian squad. With a lot of talent in the ranks and some major injuries, it has certainly become difficult for the selectors. With these problems the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar might try to get the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back into the T20 setup. This is also a tough decision since the two star batters last played a T20I back in 2022 in the T20 World Cup semi final vs England. Overall with not a lot of gametime in the format, it will be tough for the batters to adapt quickly as well.

However the inclusion of Rohit and Virat will not be a surprise as they have equally been successful in the shorter format as well with over 7500 runs between them in T20I’s and 23000 runs in T20’s overall between these two batters. They also have the experience to play some big match winning innings in this format in the Indian Premier league(IPL) as well for their respective franchises. There is no doubt that these players even after not playing T20I’s for over a year will still be dangerous batters to look out for.

Selection Committee meetings

The selection committee headed by Agarkar along with the likes of Shiv Sundar Das and Salil Ankola has decided to call on a meeting with India head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma regarding this decision to finalise a squad for the upcoming Afghanistan T20I series since the likes of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are injured and the backup replacements have not yet been named. With over 25-30 players to be monitored and with Virat and Rohit’s availability being questionable due to the England Tests starting from the 25th of January it is a tough decision for the committee.

The Indian Cricket Board will have their work cut out regarding this decision and it can be a make or break one as well. It will be interesting to see who will make the final squad. There are still a lot of great players in the mix and with the Indians doing well in T20 cricket, it will be something to look forward to in the future. To see Virat and Rohit back in the mix will also be treat to watch with the two showing their class on the wold stage once again in the shortest format.
