England were supposedly in control during the 4th Test vs India in Ranchi after 2 days. The Indians were reeling at 219-7 trailing by 130 runs. The England side would have been looking to get the side all out after as soon as possible. However, the 76-run 8th wicket partnership between Kuldeep Yadav and Dhruv Jurel caused some problems for the England batters. With this vital partnership, India was able to get to 307 and gave England a lead of just 46 runs.
The England batters struggled to bat on a pitch that was keeping low and turning on some occasions. The game ended with the spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja creating problems for England batters. Ashwin managed to finish with a 5-fer and England were eventually bowled out for only 145 runs giving the hosts a target of 192 runs. The Indians are in a great position going into day 4 at 40-0 with both the openers looking good.
Dhruv Jurel: the Indian saviour
Even though the Indian spinners bowled well today, it was Dhruv Jurel who saved the Indian innings completely. His 90 of 149 deliveries is what kept India in the game as he took control of the innings. Jurel played a mature innings for only his 2nd Test match for India. Jurel played a perfect balance of counter-attacking and responsible cricket in the middle and was able to form important partnerships with tail-enders Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep.
This is turning into another great Test match. The Indians will be confident going into the game, but this is one of those times where it is still anybody’s game. India will be looking to chase down this total and seal the series, but the Barmy Army will also want the 10 wickets to come back. It will be a battle of nerves in this current Test match with both the hosts trying to get the runs and win the series, whereas the visitors will want to take the 10 wickets as soon as possible.
