The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction had a lot of action with a lot of big buys made by the franchise. There were records broken with two players going over the 20 crore mark and being the most expensive players in IPL history. This has been one of the most iconic auctions where there were some surprising purchases done by the teams as well. There was a lot of drama going into this auction with a lot of players who went for big prices and also players who didn’t attract buyers and were unsold. No doubt this auction has made a lot of fans interested in the upcoming tournament next year where all the fans will be tuned into watching these teams perform.

However, there was still some drama in the auction featuring the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise who made a huge blunder by accidentally bidding for an uncapped player named Shashank Singh who is a batting all-rounder from Chattisgarh. As we know all the teams do their homework beforehand and pick their players in their squad after a lot of planning on which player they should target and which player can come under their budget. Even players like Shashank Singh will not know whether to feel lucky or disappointed at the franchise buying him at his base price of 20 lakhs.

How did it happen?

When the name Shashank Singh came up the franchise was looking to buy some young prospects in their squad. Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta after discussing the player just raised the paddle and with no further bids the hammer came down and Shashank was added to the roster. As soon as the sale was made and auctioneer Mallika Sagar was introducing the next player the Punjab Kings management realised their mistake and wanted to remove that player from the roster. The management implied that they mistook the player for someone else and wanted to change their decision.

Unfortunately, Malika refused to cancel their bid as the player was already sold and gone under the hammer. This blunder might have hurt both franchise and player since the franchise had to add Shashank to the roster with regret and Shashank would not have wanted to get into an IPL team in this fashion where the team bought him by a sheer mistake. Overall he will still be part of the league and the franchise and will look to prove to the franchise that it wasn’t a mistake to buy him.
