Sri Lankan cricket membership was recently suspended by the Apex Cricket Body. This news came just 24 hours after Sri Lanka were knocked out of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga now has come up with a huge allegation against Jay Shah.

The 1996 World Cup-winning skipper has been a known critic of India and the Indian Cricket Board. The comments from the 59-year-old have created a new controversy in the cricketing world.

The Sri Lankan team finished 9th in the table with four points from 9 games. Their only two wins during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament were against the Netherlands and England.

59-year-old former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga courted controversy on Monday. Arjuna Ranatunga aimed at Jay Shah blaming the Indians for the mess that Sri Lankan cricket finds itself in.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Arjuna Ranatunga said “Because of the connections between SLC and Jay Shah, they (Indian Cricket Board) are under the impression they can trample and control SLC. Jay Shah is running the Sri Lanka Cricket. SLC is being ruined because of pressure from Jay Shah. One man in India is ruining Sri Lanka cricket. He is only powerful because of his father, who is India’s home minister”

Sri Lanka concluded their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a five-wicket loss to New Zealand in Bengaluru. The loss also meant that they would not be part of the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in 2025.

A day late the Apex Cricket Body decided to suspend the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s membership. The stated reason was the outside interference from the Sri Lankan government in the running of the game.

As per the rules put into place by the Apex Cricket Body, every member must be run autonomously. Failure to do so will result in suspension of membership as was seen by the Sri Lanka board.

There was a huge uproar a day after the Lankan's loss to India by a massive 302-run margin in Mumbai. Chasing 358 to win, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 55 runs as Mohammed Shami picked 5/18 with the ball. Massive questions were asked the board was replaced with a new interim committee to look into the heavy defeat suffered.
