Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant

The India vs England series has seen the emergence of another young squad. India had some injuries which led them to select some young blood in the Test matches. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were the few young players who made a mark in the series. The Indians still managed to win the series 3-1 with one game to go in the series. This is also the 17th consecutive home series victory for them extending their winning streak at home.

The performances of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill might have been the main highlight, but we cannot leave out the contribution of Dhruv Jurel. The 23-year-old wicketkeeper batter replaced KS Bharat in the playing XI in the 3rd Test. Jurel played a decent innings of 40+ runs in the 1st Test, but he really showcased his ability in the last game.

Jurel scored 90 runs in the first innings to get his team out of trouble and formed an important partnership with Shubman Gill in the second to win the game and seal the series. This has given rise to the debate if Jurel can be a permanent keeper on the Test side as well.

Kumble on the debate

Legendary leg spinner Anil Kumble has also given his views on the topic of Jurel taking the place of Rishabh Pant where he complimented Jurel comparing him to the likes of MS Dhoni saying, “ he certainly has all the credentials to get to where MS (Dhoni) reached in his career. But he's shown that he's not just shown the temperament of his technique to defence but even when he's attacking.”

Kumble suggests that he has made a strong case for himself in this current Test series. There might be some people who will be missing the services of Pant, but if Jurel is the choice for the selectors, then we shouldn’t be surprised at all. It will still make an interesting case since Pant has given equally great performances for his team. Both of them are skilled in both departments whether it is with the willow or the gloves. This will be a tough decision for the selectors since Pant is also set to make his return as well.
