Sourav Ganguly on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

The T20 World Cup 2024 groups have been announced and will take place on the 1st of June. The Men in Blue have a 3-match T20I series whose squad is yet to be announced and a 5-match Test series vs England at home. The big question is still whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will feature in the tournament after taking a long break from T20I which has lasted for years. Even if they are, they will still need some games under their belt as well. It also looks certain after injuries to Surya Kumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya which can lead to choosing the two as the experienced players for the tournament.

It won’t be a surprise if these two great batters feature in the squad since they have been the greatest batters for India in this era. They have also got over 7000 runs combined in T20I’s and 23000 runs combined in T20’s overall. They have also shown their T20 form in the Indian Premier League(IPL) for years as well. They might have been out of the setup for a long time, but they still have enough experience and knocks to support the decision of them playing the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Sourav Ganguly’s views

India former captain Sourav Ganguly has also given his opinion on the selection of the two India powerhouses giving his views on the team saying “India is a great team. If India loses one game, then people go on to say that the team is very bad. They won the ODI series, a 1-1 in T20Is and in the Tests. What more do you need?”. This is then followed by another statement where the former legend explained the role of the players once included in the side saying “ Rohit should be the captain. Of course, Virat Kohli is an outstanding player.”

These are views coming from one of the greatest Indian captains to ever take the field, where he has given his honest and fair assessment on why Virat and Rohit should not be left out of the upcoming tournament in June. There will be a lot of big decisions the Indian Cricket Board will have to make going forward in which will be the squad that can win them the trophy for the second time. There will be a lot of plans and tough choices to pick the perfect squad and it will be interesting to see what the selectors have planned.
