The Indian squad for the 3-match T20I series vs Afghanistan was announced by the Indian Cricket Board and there has been a lot of excitement among the fans to see that the two Indian greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return. The last time these two played a T20I match was in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final vs England which was more than two years ago. It will be interesting to see how the two stars perform after a long break from the format. They are still one of the best batters in the world right now, especially in the T20 format where both of them have over 10000 runs. There is no doubt that there will be a lot of fans who will be excited to see these batters play.
Talking about the squad there is a lot of variety in the ranks with a mix of all-rounders, middle-order pinch hitters that add depth to the batting lineup and a bowling attack filled with bowlers who have unique and different skills as well. It will be interesting to see how this squad will perform against an Afghanistan side filled with some great T20 players in the form of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. This will also be a test for the players with the T20 World Cup 2024 being months away from starting.
Aakash Chopra unhappy with selectors
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has once again given his opinion on the squad and has given some names that should have been included. The cricketer-turned-commentator shared his views on Social media on the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer in the squad saying “"Iyer was nominated as the Vice-Captain for the 5-match T20i series vs Australia. Was a part of the squad against SA too. Now, finds no place in the team vs Afghanistan. “Along with this Chopra also was unhappy on the exclusion of wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who also has been performing well for the team.
There might be a lot of players that have been left out of the squad which might cause some people to be curious such as the exclusion of players like Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul as well, but we still don't know what plans the board has in store for the future. There is still a lot of time left before the T20 World Cup and the board did have to make some tough decisions as well due to the absence of some players due to injury as well. It still looks like a great T20I squad with a lot of potential and we hope that they will show some great performances in the upcoming series.
