There have been a lot of impactful all-rounders in cricket today who have shown their potential on the big stage as well. One of those game-changing all-rounders is Australia's Cameron Green. The 6’6” giant is known for his aggressive hitting and handy seam bowling. He has already impressed everyone with his skills in all formats of the game. He has played some great knocks and has bowled some handy spells in his career so far and is one of the most backed youngsters for Australia.
Green has recently opened up on one of the biggest secrets he has been keeping for a long time about his health. The Aussie player has revealed that he has been suffering from a chronic Kidney disease which was diagnosed at birth. The doctors had also said that Green might not survive more than 12 years. Fortunately, he has beaten the odds and now is one of the upcoming stars for Australia at the age of 24 and things are still looking good for him in the future.
History of Green’s chronic illness
In an interview with Channel 7, Green uncovered the details of his illness saying that his Kidneys operate around 60% placing him at stage 2 of his chronic illness. He also stated that he is fortunate to be in stage 2 since the disease has 5 stages where the last stage involves transplant dialysis. He also emphasised the irreversible nature of his disease saying “Kidneys can’t get better. It’s irreversible. So any way you can find to slow the progression, you try and do”.
His father Gary Green also shared his story stating “At the time it was uncharted territory as such; the prognosis wasn’t great. There were life-expectancy issues that he might not expect to live past 12 years of age”. Despite this Green has still been playing competitive Cricket and has still kept most of his medical history private. So far nothing has affected his game even in the longer formats.
This shows the determination and courage of a sportsman who still gives everything to the sport he loves and cherishes. The reveal of this Chronic disease has given a strong picture of Green and shows his struggle and fight to stay in the game as much as possible.
