6-times IPL winner Ambati Rayudu spills beans on why teams like MI and CSK are more successful than other franchises in IPL

Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu, who just last year announced his retirement from all forms of Cricket after winning his 6th IPL title and 3rd with CSK, spilt the beans on why teams like MI and CSK are more successful and have won more IPL titles than other IPL franchises like RCB, DC and PBKS.

Rayudu, who made his IPL debut in 2010, was associated with franchises Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings during his IPL days and has won 6 IPL titles as a player for both these franchises (3 times each).

He made his IPL debut in 2008 when he was picked by Mumbai in 2010. He played for till 2017 until he was picked by CSK in 2018. In his 8-year-long association with MI, Rayudu played some scintillating knocks for Mumbai and scored 2416 runs in 114 matches.

For Chennai Super Kings, the experienced campaigner played 90 matches and scored 1932 runs in these matches playing at various positions and making an impact for CSK, winning 3 titles during his time with the franchise till the last year.

Rayudu reveals why other teams aren’t as successful as CSK, MI

After playing IPL for such a long-time champion team, Rayudu understands what mindset champion teams have that sets them apart from other teams who haven’t been so successful in the IPL yet even being there for the last 16 years.

He believes that what sets champion teams apart is their mindset and how they build the team. Successful teams can retain their core for a longer time and they understand a player better and believe in their abilities and dedication rather than focusing on just numbers and stats.

He said, “MI and CSK have been able to retain their core and that’s why they have been so successful. There’s nothing like stronger and weaker teams as everyone has the same purse, it’s just what they do with it. A lot of teams don’t have any clue about how to build a team. Even If they are from the cricketing world, they don’t see things the way they should. They are just so into numbers, stats, and all that nonsense.”

He also added, ‘Sport is Sport; you see a sportsman for who he is and what is he about to bring; what is his mindset. If somebody is hungry enough to make a comeback after a bad season to make a comeback, they don’t see all that. They just see stats and say a player is finished. Nobody is finished, players have ups and downs. Other franchises can recognize it while franchises like MI and CSK do it better and that’s why they are more successful.
