Anirban Lahiri, the known Indian golf star, missed the cut at FedEx St. Jude Championship and this has forced him to watch over the leader board over the weekend. The top 70 will make it to the BMW Championship scheduled to take place next week.
Lahiri had a bad first day as he shot one over par. And this required a low ground to make it to the field next week. However, the former did not give his best as a late double bogey ruined his chances. The Pune-born star hit a shot one-under 69 and failed to make the cut by two shots.
World Number one Scottie Scheffler missed the cut alongside Lahiri. The rule states that the top 70 from the FedEx standings will march on to the BMW Championship. The Indian veteran who opened his golf win account at Panasonic Open in 2011 will have to keep an eye over the leader board. He entered the week as 63rd and is projected to drop to 70.
American star JJ Spaun took a one-shot lead as he made a late birdie for a three-under 67. Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth missed the cut alongside Scottie Scheffler and Anirban Lahiri. Spaun managed to record a three-under 67 to take a single-shot lead ahead of Troy Merritt (65) and Sepp Straka (66).
On the 434-yard par-4, Lahiri opened the account with a birdie. He had to incur a penalty after going into the water on Par-5 third. And to everyone’s surprise, the Pune star managed to bag a par. Lahiri missed the bogie on the fifth. He clinched an eagle from 138 yards as he put the second shot on the sixth into the hole.
On the tenth of Par-4, Lahiri made use of the birdie chance from 10 feet and moved to three-under for the round. A bogey on the 530-yard par-5 16th, after hitting the green in four and two putting, which moved him to 1-under for the round and missed the cut.
