AB De Villiers is one player whose name speaks for himself. Although the former South African cricketer has retired from the International arena, his name is still mentioned often. Such is the legacy this man has set for himself in the game of Cricket. While we focus on his cricket career, De Villiers has a keen interest in Golf.
Recently, the Icons event was conducted at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey and De Villiers represented the Rest of the World team in the tournament. The former cricketer said that he was embarrassed to see his name alongside some of the greats of the game of Golf.
“I’m quite nervous, I almost feel embarrassed to be on that list, some of my heroes are playing,” he said.
De Villiers revealed that he was addicted to the game since his childhood. The South African cricketer expressed that he wanted to keep it casual even though he loves the game of Golf and believes he has missed a lot of years now. This news shows his true sportsmanship and gives us a deep insight into the heart of a sportsman like De Villiers.
The former right-handed batter said,
“Old Course at St Andrews and Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland were among his ever favorites. When asked if he would take the sport as his second career, the former cricketer was doubtful of the same. It was one of my dreams growing up, but it’s something I want to keep casual. If I was to try and crack it as a golfer, I’m back as a hamster running on that wheel. I want to keep it casual, see how well I can play, but playing with my mates and in tournaments like this, that will be as serious as it gets,” he said.
Fans might get to see more of De Villiers in the future, not in Cricket but Golf.
