In their opening encounter of the Women's Premier League 2023 on Sunday, Delhi outplayed Bangalore to register a massive victory. Smriti Mandhana-led Bangalore was defeated by Meg Lanning's Delhi by 60 runs. In a high-scoring match at the Brabourne Stadium, Delhi produced a near-perfect effort to push Bangalore back with both bat and ball.

Despite being forced to bat first, the Blue Brigade smashed everything it could. Their opening pair of captain Lanning and Shafali Verma added 162 runs for the first wicket. Lanning scored 72 runs off 43 balls with the help of 14 fours while Shafali hammered 84 runs off 45 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes. In the end, Jemimah Rodrigues and Marizanne Kapp added 60 runs to propel Delhi to a massive total.

Heather Knight was the only bowler to perform well for Bangalore. She dismissed both Lanning and Shafali in the spare of two balls and tried to provide a comeback for the Red Brigade. However, Bangalore failed to capitalize on the opportunity and let Delhi post 223 for 2 in 20 overs.

Bangalore lost five wickets for seven runs

In response to the massive score, the Smriti-Mandhana-led side started well as the skipper along with Sophie Devine added 41 runs in just four overs. Mandhana scored 35 runs off 23 balls with the help of five fours and one six. However, Alice Capsey and Tara Norris proved to be outstanding with the ball for Delhi. Capsey dismissed both openers in two consecutive overs while Tara forced Bangalore to collapse. Both restricted Bangalore to 96 for 7.

Meanwhile, Knight along with Megan Schutt tried to rescue Bangalore as both added 54 runs for the 8th wicket. Knight scored 34 off 21 while Schutt added an unbeaten 30 in 19 balls. Although fans react to the humiliating defeat of the Bangalore women's team. A Twitter user said, "Bangalore continuing their legacy."
