The absence of Jasprit Bumrah has been haunting India for the longest time possible and the Indian team management has been trying to get the pacer back to full fitness as soon as possible. India was adversely affected by the great pacer's absence not only in the WTC final, in which they lost by a score of 209 runs but also in the Asia Cup as well as the T20 World Cup that was held the previous year. However, Bumrah is expected to make a sensational comeback long before the major event gets off in India in October, thus India's concern as they enter the last round for their World Cup training is likely to come to an end.
Bumrah had been out since September of last year due to back problems. With the T20 World Cup in sight, he was forced into a participation that month versus Australia at home following missing the Asia Cup, but it backfired as it worsened his injury, keeping him out of important series and matches like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series as well as WTC final. Even worse, he also missed the whole IPL 2023 season with the Mumbai Indians.
Bumrah is now scheduled to make his India return later in August as the squad travels to Ireland to play a three-match T20I series, per a report in News18. The competition will start on August 18 and all three games are scheduled to be played in Malahide.
An Indian Cricket Board official spoke to News 18 and discussed the potential comeback of Jasprit Bumrah. He said, “Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take the field.”
