The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League is underway and we have already seen some thrilling action from the boys so far. Friday's encounter between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United was like watching the highlights of a match, with Shadab Khan-led United scoring a mammoth total with Azam Khan's firework. The National Stadium in Karachi witnessed one of the craziest batting displays in PSL history as Azam scored 97 runs off 42 balls, including 9 fours and 8 sixes.

However, the amusing factor in yesterday's match was Pakistan's great Moin Khan, currently, the Gladiators' coach, who was on the receiving end of his son's brutal attack. After completing his half-century, Azam was seen gesturing towards his father and the former wicketkeeper batter could be seen clapping.

Azam's knock along with Asif Ali's quickfire 42 from 24 balls helped United to post 220 on the board. But in the chase, Sarfaraz Khan-led Quetta Gladiators were all out for 157 in 19.1 overs and lost by 63 runs.

'I am what I am because of him': Azam Khan

After the magnificent innings, Azam did not forget to thank his father for the faith he showed in his son's abilities even when many said he would not be able to play.

“The way my father has supported me, it is special. A lot of people said I could not play, and that I would stay behind because of my father, but I am what I am because of him,” he said.

“To be honest, I knew I was in good form. I was batting well in the BPL and was trying to continue it. We were four wickets down and I was thinking of taking it deep. I have the belief that I can change the game at any moment… I practice range hitting so that I get a good idea about my strokes. T20 cricket is so fast at the moment and you need the acceleration at the right moment,” added Azam.

Azam Khan's brutal hitting and making his father proud amused fans.
