The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, are in Australia and they played a practice match against Western Australia on October 10, Monday. However, the Indian legend, Virat Kohli did not take part in the practice match much to the surprise of Indian fans.
While the fans awaited a statement from the skipper on the same, the Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin opened up on Kohli missing out on the match. However, he did not give a clear explanation as he said that he needed to be in Rahul Dravid’s shoes to answer it.
“I wish I could walk into Rahul Dravid’s shoes one day and answer that question, but as of now, your guess is as good as mine,” Ashwin was quoted as saying after the match.
Shikhar Dhawan-led team to play decider on Tuesday
In other news, the southpaw is leading a second-string Indian team against South Africa. India levelled the series in the match played on Sunday and the team will play the decider on Tuesday in New Delhi. It will be a tough one for the team as the full-string Proteas team will do all it takes to clinch the series.
Post the win in the second ODI, Dhawan said that he was pleased with the win and thanked the Proteas skipper Keshav Maharaj for batting first on the day. For the unversed, after putting 278 on the board, South Africa failed to defend the total allowing India to chase it down with seven wickets to spare.
“Worked perfectly well for us, thanks to Keshav that he chose to bat (smiles). Glad that dew came in at the right time. Ishan and Shreyas batted so well, that partnership was so nice to watch. It was coming on nicely, but it stayed low. Plan was to take on the bowlers in the first 10 overs as we knew it could get difficult in the middle overs. When the dew came, you could see that it got easier,” Dhawan said in the post-match interview.
