‘You don't have a strong batting line-up’- Shoaib Akthar warns Pakistan for their World Cup preparations after Asia Cup 2023 knock out

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has recently voiced his concerns over Pakistan's team combination and form ahead of the World Cup. This comes after their disappointing exit from the Asia Cup, where they were knocked out by Sri Lanka on Thursday, September 14.

Pakistan's performance in the Asia Cup was lacklustre, with their batting lineup failing to deliver consistently. He believes that Pakistan's team combination needs to be re-evaluated in order to improve their chances in the upcoming World Cup 2023. Akhtar suggests that changes need to be made in terms of player selection and strategy. He emphasizes the need for a strong opening partnership and a reliable middle order that can stabilize the innings.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel following Pakistan's loss to Sri Lanka, Shoaib Akhtar discussed what the Men in Green should be wary of heading into the World Cup:

"From here, Pakistan need to look at their World Cup squad. My suggestion would be don't create any confusion and prepare your final XI. You don't have depth in your middle order, you don't have quality spinners, you don't have a strong batting line-up. Abdullah Shafique is one of his kind and needs to be backed," he said.

According to Akhtar, it is a shame that Pakistan, who were considered favourites for the Asia Cup, will not even compete in the tournament's final.

He has challenged Pakistani players to pull up their socks if they want to advance far in the World Cup, and he has expressed reservations over Babar Azam's captaincy.

Akhtar stated: "We will support our team and that's all we can do. But this is an embarrassing loss. To get out of the tournament in this fashion is not nice. Pakistan have a lot to think about if they want to win the World Cup. The captaincy needs to sharpen up."

Pakistan would undoubtedly be concerned about Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf's fitness since their bowling attack looked feeble against Sri Lanka without them.
