India did not start the ODI series against Bangladesh on a good note as the Bangla Tigers beat the Men in Blue by one wicket, courtesy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz who played a blinder which consisted of 38 off just 39 balls with four fours and two sixes. This helped Bangladesh chase down the score of 187. Bangladesh snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

India wicketkeeper KL Rahul was the cynosure of all eyes after he dropped an easy catch of Mehidy on 17 which changed the course of the match for both sides. Rahul played a wonderful knock of 73 off 70 balls with five fours and four sixes. What is surprising is that Sunil Gavaskar has stood behind Rahul as he revealed the actual reason behind India’s defeat.

India should have finished the match - Sunil Gavaskar

“You can't really say that was it. Because yes, I think that was the last wicket. That should have made the match over. But the fact that India scored 186, I think you gonna look at that as well. The bowlers did wonderfully well, to get themselves in a position where they were 136-9. And then Hasan Miraj came, they had a bit of luck with that drop catch, but he played really well. He played sensibly. They took the attack to the opposition and played some bold shots. But India scored at least 80-70 runs less and if they had 250, it could have been a different game,” Gavaskar said to the Sony Sports Network.

India did not put in a good account of themselves with the bat as they folded up for just 186 in their 50 overs. Rohit Sharma scored just 27 off 31 with four fours and one six. Shikhar Dhawan made a laborious 7 off 17 balls with one four and Virat Kohli made just 9 off 15 balls before getting out to a spectacular piece of fielding from Litton Das. Mehidi Hasan was named the player of the match for his game-changing knock.
