The veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has come up with praising remarks for Mukesh Kumar who recently made his Test debut for India in the second Test against West Indies. Apart from this, Mukesh also scalped the wicket of Caribbean debutant Kirk McKenzie in the first innings of West Indies.
“Mukesh Kumar, what a lovely story. Coming from a very humble background, a great success story for our domestic cricket. What was impressive is they had bowling selections where anybody could come and bowl. He had come along with a lot of others but didn't get his turn to bowl,” said Karthik to Cricbuzz.

“You ask anybody in the domestic circuit, they will tell you Mukesh Kumar is born for Test cricket. Bowling those long overs, he is somebody if there is a little bit in the wicket, you can ask anybody who has played domestic cricket, he is a handful to deal with. On this pitch, even though there was not much, you could see how domestic cricket has helped him,” he added later.
Speaking of the current action of the match at the Port of Spain in Trinidad, Mukesh Kumar has scalped another wicket to play a crucial role in India’s comeback in the match. He trapped Alick Athanaze in an LBW dismissal.
Apart from this, West Indies have lost their 8 wickets on the score of 245 runs starting the fourth day with 5 wickets on 229 runs. Notably, the hosts have lost three wickets within a score of only 16 runs in the early minutes of the first session of the penultimate day of the match.
Other than Mukesh Kumar’s two wickets, the star pacer Mohammed Siraj has also claimed three scalps to his name alongside 1 and 2 wickets picked by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja respectively.
