Team India skipper Rohit Sharma failed to open his account against Bangladesh in the ongoing Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. The Men in Blue bowlers reduced Bangladesh to 36-3. But the partnership between skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy made a 100-run partnership before the skipper went back to the pavilion and missed his hundred. Bangladesh after being 59/4 ended up scoring a competitive 265/8 in their 50 overs. Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps to his name. Mohammed Shami who replaced Mohammed Siraj took two for 32. Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja took one each.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma were back to the pavilion inside the powerplay. The left-hander batter could only score 5 on his ODI debut as India. He misjudged an incoming delivery and left it on the length and he was bowled by Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
