It has been a few years since Chennai fans witnessed their favourite 'Thala' in action at their home ground, the Chepauk Stadium. Even after retiring from international cricket years ago, the amount of love that MS Dhoni receives from his fans across the world is immense and we saw that from the Chennai crowd on Monday evening. The four-time Indian T20 League-winning captain received a rousing ovation from his fans as he stepped out for a training session.

The franchise announced on its Twitter handle that fans could watch the Chennai players' training session live, and within an hour the stands were completely packed. The moment Dhoni was seen walking into the middle of the ground, the fans poured out their love chanting 'Dhoni....Dhoni..'. The box office stuff video clip has been doing the rounds on social media and many have found it to be a replica of the exact moment from the 2019 edition of the tournament, where the 41-year-old received a similar reception from the crazy crowd in Chennai.

Will this be Dhoni's last dance in ITL?

The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is all set to kick start on March 31, with Chennai gearing up to take on defending champions Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rumours are spreading that this could be MS Dhoni's last ITL season as the wicket-keeper batter, who retired from international cricket on 15th August 2020, had earlier said he wanted to hang up his boots after playing in front of his adoring Chennai fans.

However, there is no confirmation of what his future looks like with the Chennai franchise. Given his fitness and power-hitting ability, the 2011 World Cup-winning captain could still play for a few more years.

Meanwhile, after a rough 2022 ITL season - finishing second last in the points table - Dhoni and Co will aim to bounce back this year and lift their fifth cash-rich league title.

Here's how fans reacted to Dhoni's thundering reception at the Chepauk Stadium:
