Former Pakistan cricketer, Inzamam-Ul-Haq was named Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector for the second time; he earlier held this post between the years 2016 and 2019. Inzamam was a prominent member of Pakistan's 1992 ODI World Cup winning side, and as reported, he gave his consent to PCB for taking this role last week.

In his career, the 53-year-old played 120 Tests and made 8830 runs with an average of 49.60 with 25 centuries and 46 fifties, whereas, in the 378 ODIs, the right-handed batter has 11739 runs with 10 centuries and 83 fifties. However, for this role, Inzamam replaced Haroon Rasheed, as Rasheed stepped down last month.

Now with major changes in PCB, it will not be easy for the former Pakistan skipper to take on this role, as major challenges lie ahead for him at the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023. Anyway, Inzamam-Ul-Haq had a taste of this task earlier as he selected players for the World Cup in 2019 when he selected Pakistan’s side for the 50-over format marquee event.

Inzamam Ul Haq was appointed by PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf-

The former Pakistan skipper before taking on this role was appointed to the PCB’s cricket technical committee last week. In this committee with him, Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah-ul-Haq were there, but as PCB stated, the appointment of chief selectors was made by Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf, so the role of this committee is still not defined.

It is pertinent to mention that the ODI World Cup 2023 will be the 16th edition of the tournament, and will be held for the first time solely in India starting from October 5. In the past, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hosted the marquee event on three occasions in 1987, 1996, and 2011, but with its neighbouring countries. Whereas the Asia Cup 2023 will be hosted co-jointly by Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30.
