Gujarat Titans players are set to wear a special lavender-coloured jersey in their final home match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The initiative from the Ahmedabad-based franchise aims to create awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer.

The defending champions shared the news on their official Twitter handle, stating, “We are ready to don the lavender colours this Monday for a special cause. Gujarat Titans cares about the health and wellness of one and all! Join us as we strive to raise awareness against cancer."

"The choice of lavender, a colour symbolising all types of cancer, serves as a powerful reminder of the many lives affected by this devastating disease. By wearing lavender jerseys, Gujarat Titans aim to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention, emphasising the crucial role that lifestyle changes can play in combating cancer,” the franchise said in a release.

GT aims to finish first in IPL 2023 league stage

Despite Rashid Khan's all-round brilliance, Gujarat Titans lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 27 runs in their last match on Friday, May 12. The Afghanistan spin wizard claimed a four-wicket haul in the first innings, but the five-time champions posted a mammoth total of 218 runs on the back of Suryakumar Yadav’s breathtaking maiden IPL century (103* off 49 balls).

In reply, all of GT's top-order batters failed to find resistance on the crease, leading to a disastrous start. David Miller played aggressively at one end but none of the other batters could support him, which eventually led to his dismissal for 41 off 26 balls. However, to everyone's surprise, Rashid displayed a sensational fightback, registering a 21-ball fifty and remaining unbeaten on 79 at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 246.87. Although his valiant effort did not help GT cross the finish line, it narrowed the margin of defeat.

Titans currently top the points table with 16 points from 12 games, and with two games remaining, they hope to end the league stage as table toppers. Meanwhile, MI earned two vital points and increased their chances of making the playoffs with 14 points from 12 games.
