South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada feels his country will have an edge heading into the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year. The Proteas are yet to win a major multi-national tournament, but Rabada feels the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years will be a boost for them this time around.

The right-arm seamer is one of the many South African players who have played in the IPL 2023 season. Rabada, who played for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 16th season, has been a regular in the cash-rich league and has taken 106 wickets in 69 matches.

“Heading into the World Cup in India, I do think that we have an advantage because we have played in the IPL for so many years. We have played at most of the grounds, if not all, so we understand those conditions," Rabada said while talking to IOL.

Rabada feels it is really tough for pacers to play in India

Rabada, who has played 89 ODIs and taken 137 wickets in the ODI format, said that it is not easy for fast bowlers to perform well on Indian pitches. He believes reading the conditions and executing your skills is key for pacers in India.

“Playing in India is really tough as a fast bowler on some of those wickets. I guess the challenge now, at the age that I am, is to know (and understand) the basic information that a newbie wouldn’t know. You are always learning and always looking to be as effective as you can be on different wickets," the 28-year-old said.

“It is all about reading (the pitch) better and that is in combination with the goals that you set. Those two go in tandem – reading the conditions and executing your skills. It sounds very nonchalant and easy to say, but it is a very rigorous process and a tough one. That is the process that I am currently involved in. That is where I am," he added.
