Spin wizard Nathan Lyon has been an integral part of the Australian Test team for over a decade. The off-spinner is currently touring England and was instrumental in a thriller win at Edgbaston in the 2023 Ashes opener. Lyon will join an illustrious list of cricketers when he takes the field in the second Test at Lord's, which begins on June 28.

Having played a total of 121 Test matches, Lyon has played in 99 straight Test matches since August 2013 and will become the only bowler in history to play 100 consecutive games. Only five players have played 100 or more consecutive Tests - Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106) and Brendon McCullum (101).

"That's something I'm really proud of. To be able to tick off 100 consecutive Test matches that's a proper stat in my head. That's a lot of Test cricket, a lot of ups and downs. No wonder I've got no hair," the 35-year-old said.

Another milestone awaits Lyon at Lord's

Lyon also hopes to reach another milestone against England on Wednesday, June 18, as he is just five wickets away from claiming 500 Test wickets. He performed superbly in the first Ashes Test, finishing with figures of 8/229 and forming a solid partnership with skipper Pat Cummins in an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

While Lyon will aim to complete this massive feat in the second Test, the stats show that the veteran struggled a bit at the iconic venue. In two Test matches here, the right-arm spinner has bowled 70.1 overs and picked up just six wickets.

"I actually really enjoy bowling here, using the slope to our advantage as bowlers. I think you can bowl with it and hopefully spin more or you can bowl up and use the angles and hopefully bring in both edges. I don't think it's one end that got to be the spinners' end or the fast bowlers' end. You've got to have that ability to adjust and really enjoy that challenge of bowling with it or against type thing," Lyon was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo ahead of the Lord's Test.
