Chelsea's new manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that the Blues have been the "greatest team in England" over the past 10-15 years. The West London giants have won 21 trophies since 2004, including five Premier Leagues and two UEFA Champions League titles. The Argentine made this claim during his first official interview as Chelsea's manager on Monday.

Chelsea had a disastrous campaign in the 2022-23 Premier League, finishing 12th in the points table. During this period, they had four different coaches: Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor (caretaker), and Frank Lampard (interim). Under Lampard, the 1955 champions suffered a losing streak and it was revealed at the end of last season that Pochettino would take charge of the Blues in the new season.

After being appointed as the man to steady the ship, the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur manager stated that Chelsea was the finest team in England for the previous 15 years. “In the last 10, 12, 15 years, Chelsea is the greatest team in England. I know very well the Premier League and what the culture of Chelsea means. I think our fans are excited to again be on the road of trying to win,” said Pochettino.

'Excited to work with a very young team': Pochettino on being appointed as Chelsea's new manager

Chelsea managed to get only 44 points from 38 matches last season. But Pochettino believes that by creating a positive atmosphere at the club, he can build a successful team for years to come.

“Of course, we are excited. We are excited to work with a very young team, with a different approach than in the past. But I think we all need to understand that we have to work really hard and create a very good atmosphere at the training ground to build success for the team in the next few years,” the 51-year-old added.

In his managerial career, the Argentine tactician has a 44.17 win percentage (292 games, 129 wins). He guided the North Londoners to the 2019 Champions League final and has won three titles from his time in France with Paris Saint-Germain. However, it remains to be seen what magic he will do at Stamford Bridge with his new team.
