If reports are to be believed, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir is all set to make a sensational return to international cricket as the Pakistan Cricket Board is ready to give the left-arm pacer one last chance. According to reports, the PCB selection committee has asked Amir to remain fit and focus on cricket while refraining from making unnecessary statements in the media.

The 30-year-old, who has always been in the news since his debut for Pakistan, still makes headlines for controversial remarks. Amir retired from all formats of cricket on December 17 2020, citing mental torture from management. He was also involved in spot-fixing for which he was banned from international cricket for five years. The fiery pacer then turned his attention to franchise cricket, where he still makes unwanted remarks.

“One of the selectors has given him (Amir) advice to stay fit and keep his preparations going for another potential national team comeback,” reports said.

“He has been reportedly asked to avoid controversial statements on media and improve his fitness as he is likely to be asked to take back his retirement from international cricket in near future,” reports further said.

He can play for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back: PCB Chairman

After Najam Sethi took charge back in PCB as committee chairman, Amir's return to international cricket was always on the cards. Sethi said that Amir would be considered for selection like other players if he takes his retirement back.

“Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty,” said Sethi.

Amir was recently seen on the cricket field for the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League, where Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by a narrow margin of one run to clinch their second consecutive title in the tournament. The experienced pacer finished 14th on the wicket-takers list with 9 wickets in seven games.

The latest update on Amir's return to international cricket has brought mixed reactions from cricket fans, with some pointing out that it will be a big boost for Pakistan in the upcoming world tournaments and some saying he should first learn how to respect his teammates.
