Pakistan had a dismal outing at home post losing to England in the finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, eventually going on to lose the ODI series in early 2023 as well. To add more, after their crash out from the multinational tournament, the Babar Azam-led faced off against the Three Lions in the Test series and lost then 0-3.

With neither of the teams winning the two Tests played between Pakistan and New Zealand ost that, the Kiwis won the ODI series 2-1 and ended their tour on a high. Haroon Rasheed was recently appointed as the chief selector of the new selection committee and the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi revealed that they are trying all they can to rope in Mickey Arthur as the head coach.

On January 30, Monday, reports emerged claiming that the PCB might appoint Arthur as the online head coach, which would make him the first of that kind. To add more, a coach has never been an online coach and Arthur is more likely to become the first of that kind.

Can Mickey Arthur change fortunes of Pakistan?

This will not be the first time that Arthur would coach team Pakistan as he was the head coach between 2016 and 2018 and the team's performance under his guidance is well documented. It was under his coaching, the Men in Green managed to win the Champions Trophy played in 2017 against India in what can be called a thriller.

“I am personally in negotiations with Mickey and we have resolved 90% of issues. Hopefully, we will very soon share the news that Mickey will be joining us and I'd like him to build his own team of coaches once he is here,” Sethi was quoted as saying earlier when announcing the new chief selector for the selection committee.

With the 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year, it remains to be seen if the Arthur-Babar combo can do wonders for the Pakistani team lifting them from the mud and making a comeback in the international arena.
