Argentina won the 2022 World Cup final against France to clinch the third world title in Football. The win of Argentina was celebrated by the fans of the team in different parts of the world. The Argentine captain and star player, Lionel Messi, was praised for the incredible season he had. The 36-year-old won the Golden ball in the tournament and helped the team immensely.
The Argentine legend is now a contender to win the Ballan D’Or for the season 2022. But Messi was not happy that Paris Saint-Germain did not honor him for the win in the World Cup. The statement of Messi did not go well with the chairman of PSG, Nasser-Al-Khelaifi, who dismissed the statement of Messi saying that PSG celebrated Messi enough.
“As everyone saw, because we even published a video, we celebrated Messi in training, and we also celebrated him in private. But with respect, we are a French club. It was of course sensitive to celebrate at the stadium. We must respect the country he defeated, his teammates on the France team, and our supporters too,” said the PSG chairman replying to Messi’s statement.
Because of us, they did not retain the World Cup - Lionel Messi
It is interesting to note that PSG is a team based in France. The opponents of Argentina in the final of the World Cup was France. Acknowledging the same, Messi talked about it. “I was the only player of the 25 that didn't get club recognition. It was understandable ... because of us (Argentina), they (France) didn't retain the World Cup," said Messi about the lack of recognition from PSG.
The relationship between Messi and PSG was not as good, despite the star player playing for the club for 2 years. When asked if he would not like to move to PSG, Messi said “It happened like that. It was not what I expected, but I always say things happen for a reason. Even if I wasn't well there, it happened that I was world champion while I was there."
