Former West Indies cricketer, Winston Benjamin released a video and requested for financial help to get kits for emerging cricketers. His video went viral as the former West Indian appealed to Sachin Tendulkar for help.
Much to the delight, PUMA, the popular sports brand has now come to the rescue of the former cricketer. Benjamin, who represented West Indies in 85 One-Day Internationals and 21 Tests, is currently coaching school kids in Antigua.
The Antigua-born cricketer made the appeal with the help of Indian journalist Vimal Kumar. In Vimal Kumar's YouTube channel, Benjamin made a heartfelt request to help him financially so that he can buy kits for emerging cricketers. Benjamin made the appeal to Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.
After getting to know of Benjamin's plea, PUMA did not waste a second to take it to Twitter to give assurance. "We hear you, Winston. Let’s get these kids padded up #WinstonBenjamin," the brand tweeted. And with this gesture, the brand's value proliferated.

This is not the first time that the brand has impressed with such wonderful gesture. In 2021, PUMA came to the rescue of Ryan Burl and his teammates after the former made an appeal on Twitter. Ryan Burl took it to Twitter to post the photos of his ripped shoes and pads. PUMA came forward and extended supporting while stating that 'it was time to put the glues away and get new ones.'
The state of cricket boards in financially developing countries is considerably below-par. West Indies and Zimbabwe are two such great nations suffering from the crisis. Earlier, Zimbabwe suffered due to the pandemic after getting reinstated into the Cricket's governing body in October 2019. Most of their tours got cancelled but they are standing up on their feet now after defeating Bangladesh in the ODI series.
West Indies, who were once a majestic team, are now struggling to perform well. While they continue to produce one of the finest players to the cricketing world, they are struggling financially. Winston Benjamin's episode is one of the standing examples for it.
