'Off the mark' - Fans can't keep calm as Manchester Originals thrash Welsh Fire to seal their first win in The Hundred 2022

Match 16 of The Hundred turned out to be an exciting one. Manchester Originals locked horns with Welsh Fire at Old Trafford Stadium. Welsh Fire skipper Josh Cobb called it right at the toss and elected to field first. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt opened the innings for the Originals first up.

The duo put on a decent partnership of 66. Jos Buttler perished after scoring a well-made 29 off seventeen balls comprising of five 4s. Philip Salt did play a combative inning and got out for a swift 38 off just 22 balls. His inning comprised of two 4s and four 6s. The Originals then started losing wickets in quick succession struggling to add more runs to the scoreboard.

Manchester Originals registered their first win in the tournament

Wayne Madsen got out for ten runs while the Caribbean star Andre Russel perished for seventeen. Laurie Evans bagged a golden duck and Tristian Stubbs added thirteen runs to the total. The Originals ended up scoring a total of 149 for the loss of nine wickets in hundred balls.

Hunting down an easily chasable target, the Fire batters failed to grab the opportunity. Joe Clarke and Tom Banton got out for ten runs and three runs. Sam Hain and David Miller were disappointed with low scores while Ben Duckett managed to cross the twenty-run mark. Skipper Josh Cobb bagged a golden duck. Dwaine Pretorious tried his best to swing the match back but failed after scoring a brisk 29 off fourteen balls.

Adam Zampa and David Payne shared only ten runs among them and the Fire was bundled out for 102 runs. The Originals' bowlers Sean Abbott and Tristian Stubbs shared six wickets among them. Sean Abbott picked a four-for by conceding only four runs off the fifteen balls he bowled. Will Tristian Stubbs managed to bag two scalps as he conceded six runs off the ten balls he bowled.
