Shoaib Akhtar has been slamming the selectors after Pakistan announced the 15-member squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Although, the Men in Green managed to reach the finals of the Asia Cup 2022, the defeat in the summit-clash affected the team’s morale heavily.
Since then, former cricketers have been continuously questioning the team’s performances and Babar Azam’s captaincy. Shoaib Akhtar was no different as he slammed the Lahore-born for his poor strike rate and captaincy skills.
The team collapsed after getting a decent start and it was the skipper who let down the team in the entire tournament. On the back of his poor performances, Babar Azam lost his number one position in the T20I rankings to Mohammad Rizwan. The former pacer slammed the batter saying that he just wanted to look classy and not play for the team.
I don’t think the captain is cut out for the job: Shoaib Akhtar
“I don’t think the captain is cut out for the job in this format. He is looking for classic drives to rediscover his touch instead of trying to play close to the body. He just wants to look classic. What kind of method is this to find form?” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.
The Pakistan skipper managed to score only 68 runs in the Asia Cup and might turn things around in Australia. The skipper Babar Azam should look to prove him wrong and win the World Cup title. Pakistan have a strong bowling attack and youngster Mohammad Nawaz will look to prove his prowess yet again. The Men in Green put on a great show in the continental tournament.
Apart from Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan also attracted a few criticisms for his poor strike rate. It will be up to him to make a statement in Australia and help Pakistan win the title.
