It was Northern Surperchargers and Trent Rockets who locked horns yesterday in the seventh match of The Hundred 2022. Amidst huge expectations, both teams stepped onto the field, and both teams had won their first match. Trent Rockets captain Lewis Gregory won the toss and elected to field first at the Headingley Stadium, Leeds hosted the match. The average first innings score at this ground is 161.
Northern Surperchargers slipped on the very first ball as Luke Wood deceived Adam Lyth with a good-length ball. Three wides followed the wicket and a six from Michael Pepper set the tone for Superchargers. Daniel Sams dismissed skipper Faf du Plessis on the eighth ball of the innings. Wood got rid of Michael pepper for just 15 runs. At the end of the thirtieth ball, the Superchargers were 41/4. Adam Hose fell to Samit Patel in the 53rd ball and the Superchargers were restricted to 70/6.
Roelof van der Merve and David Wiese joined hands and pushed the Superchargers' total towards the 150-mark. The first innings ended with Superchargers amassing 152 for the loss of eight wickets in hundred balls. Trent Rockets' openers Dawid Malan and Alex Hales got off to a flyer as they scored 29 runs off the first 15 balls. The onslaught continued further as the duo put on a fifty runs partnership for the opening wicket.
After the 40th ball, Dawid Malan was unbeaten on 34 off just 21 balls, while the aggressive opener Alex Hales was unbeaten on 31 off just 19 balls. The duo put on a partnership of 87 for the opening wicket until Adil Rashid got rid of Alex Hales. Malan carried on with his aggressive approach and ensured that the Rockets inched closer to the target. After 80 balls, Trent Rockets were 130 for the loss of only two wickets. Dawid Malan remained unbeaten on 68.
Further blitzkrieg from Malan ensured that the Rockets reached the target with six balls to spare. Trent Rockets won the match with 7 wickets in hand. Here's how Twitter reacted after the end of match 7 of The Hundred 2022:
