Manchester City is the team to defeat in the ongoing Premier League season. They have been fantastic and have got off to a punching start as they are yet to face a defeat in the season. Arsenal and Tottenham are the only other teams to not have tasted the defeat. Having won four of their first five matches, the only draw came for the Citizens against Newcastle.
Pep Guardiola’s men crossed swords against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday (August 31) and thumped them with a 6-0 score line. It was a sheer dominant performance from the Etihad Stadium stars as Erling Haaland produced a hat-trick to clinch the lead in the first half.
Joao Cancelo and Julian Alvarez shared three goals among themselves as the latter bagged a pair. The team dominated with possession and as many as 17 shots with 9 on target. The Forest were nowhere to be seen and the fans at Etihad couldn’t really keep on their team’s hegemony. A scoreline of 6-0 is something that any team would cherish and the Citizens are blazing through with a stunning start.
Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland have a special sense: Pep Guardiola
The Citizens’ manager Pep Guardiola went over the moon to credit the new strikers of the team. He said that the strikers Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland have a special sense like all other strikers. The manager added that the skill is something that cannot be taught and rated them as “natural talents”. He added that he was pleased with the team’s performance and expressed his happiness for the same.
“Julian [Alvarez] and Erling [Haaland] have a sepcial sense like all good strikers. This is natural, it’s difficult to buy or to teach. You have to ‘buy’ of course but it’s difficult to teach these kind of roles. The two goals from Julian are amazing and Erling again, two hat-tricks in a row. His mentality is contagious for the team and I am very pleased with everything,” Guardiola heaped praise on the strikers.
Here are some of the great tweets that we handpicked post the conclusion of the match:
