Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been fantastic in T20Is of late. The all-format captain was rested for the ODI series against West Indies. In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan clean swept West Indies 3-0 in their own backyard. India got off to a great start in the first T20I against the men in maroon as they won the match by 68 runs. The hosts then fought back hard in the second T20I as they won it by 5 wickets. With the series tied 1-1, India and West Indies locked horns in the third T20I yesterday.
While chasing the target of 165, the Indian skipper smashed a six and a four off the five balls that he faced. But then he walked off on the advice of physio Kamalesh Jain. This incident caused a huge shock wave among everyone who wanted India to win the Asia Cup 2022 and 20-20 World Cup 2022. BCCI clarified later that the skipper had a back spasm and is being monitored. Post-match, the Indian skipper came forward to put on a word or two about his injury.
“At the moment, it’s okay. We’ve got a few days till the next game, hopefully, it should be okay,” Rohit Sharma told in the post-match presentation. This has come as a relief to many of his fans who wanted him to do well in the Asia Cup 2022 and win the 20 over the world cup for India.
India shines in the third T20I
India won the toss and elected to field first. Following the history, seven out of nine times the team batting second have won the game here. West Indies won the second T20I at the same venue by batting second. Indian bowlers put on a hard fight to ensure that they restrict the Caribbean under 200. At the end of the first innings, West Indies put on a total of 164.
The Indian chase looked comfortable as ever, Captain Rohit Sharma put on a quick show in the five deliveries he faced. After he walked off, Shreyas Iyer backed Suryakumar Yadav who was firing at the other end. Suryakumar Yadav played a tremendous innings consisting of eight 4s and four 6s. He perished for a sweet 76. Rishabh Pant remained not-out for 33 runs and finished the game for India with one over to spare.
India won the third T20I by seven wickets. The fourth and fifth T20I will be played on August 6 and 7 respectively in Florida.
