India are currently playing against West Indies in a five-match T20I series. Team India won the ODI series 3-0 and currently posses a 1-0 lead in the T20Is. The remaining four matches will be played on August 1, 2, 6, and 7.
The second T20 international is slated to be played on August 1 at Warner Park Basseterre, St Kitts. While India would look to win the second consecutive game, West Indies, on the other hand, would be looking to make a good comeback.
Team News:
West Indies:
West Indies will look to bounce back after losing the first T20I. Shamarh Brooks was their only batter who displayed some intent. The rest of the batters failed to hit the straps. The first T20I was a one-sided affair and India clinched victory comprehensively.
Bowling department needs to contribute as well. Akeal Hosein was the only one who looked threatening. Alzarri Joseph claimed two scalps but was too expensive in his four overs. Bowling is, undoubtedly, the weakest suit for West Indies.
Players to watch out for:
- Shamarh Brooks:
Shamarh Brooks showed exceptional intent before getting out off Arshdeep Singh. The batter looked confident enough during his 20-run knock and looked on fire. The shots came from the middle of the bat and there were some classy West Indian trademark shots too. He is definitely a player to watch out far in the second T20I.
- Nicholas Pooran:
Nicholas Pooran scored 18 runs off 15 balls he faced. He looked steady during his stay at the crease. However, the batter was deceived by Ashwin, later. he smacked one four and one six off the 15 balls he faced.
- Keemo Paul:
This might come as a surprise but the all-rounder can do wonders when in full flow. The player can bat and actually bowl well too. He remained unbeaten although for a lesser strike rate in the last game. He bowled an expensive over but can be economical most of the times. He managed to pick one scalp in the first T20I.
Probable Playing XI – Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Akeal Hosein, Jason Holder, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul, Dominic Drakes, Obed McCoy.
India:
Team India were on fire in the first T20I against West Indies. They managed to thrash West Indies by 68 runs. Rohit Sharma top scored with 64 runs. Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 41 off just 19 balls.
Arshdeep Singh was brilliant in the bowling department, picking up two wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin managed to pick two wickets as well. Ravi Bishnoi picked two wickets to his name.
Players to watch out for:
- Rishabh Pant:
Rishabh Pant has been under par in the T20I format. However, the batter has exceptional potential to shine anytime. He can score quick runs and has significantly improved his keeping skills.
- Hardik Pandya:
The all-rounder did not have a great game last time but has all the potential to bounce back harder. He can give four overs and pick two or three scalps. Also, can come up later and power India past 200. He can stay till the end, take it deep and finish it for India while chasing too.
- Ravichandran Ashwin:
Ravichandran Ashwin made a cut into the squad after a brief halt. He made impressive returns of 2 for 22 in 4 overs.
Probable Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi.
Pitch Report:
Teams batting second have won six out of eight times played here. Two matches had no result. It is a low scoring ground and the average first innings score is only 120. If a team wins toss, then must definitely bowl first. The highest first innings total posted was way back in 2019 by West Indies against England (182/6).
