Two-time world champions, the West Indies are out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Nicholas Pooran and Co. lost to Ireland by 9 wickets on Friday and with that, their hopes of winning their third trophy has ended.

West Indies started off with a shocking 42-run defeat against Scotland. They made a good comeback with a 31-run win over Zimbabwe and needed one more win to romp into the Super 12s. However, on Friday, Ireland beat the West Indies by 9 wickets to take themselves into Super 12s, while West Indies will go back home.

The Men from the Caribbean would be disappointed with how they performed in the tournament. West Indies, once again, exhibited a disappointing performance with the bat. The openers, K Mayers (1) and Charles (24) couldn’t get the team off to a good start.

Lewis (13 off 18) and Nicholas Pooran (13 off 11) continued to struggle with the bat. Playing his first game of the tournament, Brandon King, however, played a stellar knock of 62 runs in 48 balls, propelling the team’s total to a respectable 146 at the end of the first innings. For Ireland, Delany was the pick of the bowlers as he picked three crucial wickets for just 16 runs in 4 overs.

Ireland needed to chase down the target to progress into the Super 12s and they did it pretty comfortably. Openers, Paul Sterling and Andrew Balbirnie, who failed to deliver in the first two games stepped up at the right time. Sterling showed his class as he wreaked havoc with the bat at Ballerive Oval in Hobart.

The veteran batter hit boundaries all around the park and played an unbeaten knock of 66 runs in just 48 deliveries. The likes of Balbirnie (37) and Lorcan Tucker (45) also made valuable contributions as Ireland chased down the score in just 17.3 overs.

The Super 12 stage is yet to start and the fans already have witnessed several upsets in the competition. The West Indies have been knocked out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, while Ireland are through to the Super 12s. Here’s a look at how fans reacted to the match:
