Players from India and Pakistan often end up being great friends outside the cricketing field despite having a brutal clash on the field. However, there have been many instances when the Indian players or the Pakistani players have taken it deep and ended up becoming enemies outside the field too.
Gautam Gambhir has always been India’s saviour in difficult situations when it comes to batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. In the year 2007, the left-handed opener had an ugly scuffle with former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi. That incident is still considered to be one of the worst fights between Indian players and Pakistani players. The controversy is still afresh and fans get emotional when they recall the incident that happened 15 years ago.
The Pakistani veteran was called on a debate show with a Pakistani news channel and Harbhajan Singh was one of the participants in the show. Afridi recollected the incident and made a comment on Gambhir stating that the latter’s character was so bad that even Indians hate him for the same. The fans were unhappy with the comment and it turned ugly when Harbhajan Singh laughed at the former Pakistani skipper’s comment.
“I don’t have any fight as such with any Indian player. Gautam (Gambhir) and I have clashed on social media some times. I would say that Gautam is such a character that even the Indian players don’t like him. My overall experience of playing against India has been great,” Afridi said on the show. The former Indian spinner did not spare a thought and laughed at the comment right away which did not go well with the Indian fans.
This caused a lot of uproars on Twitter and the Indian supporters started expressing their love for the former Indian opener. A few of them questioned Afridi’s intent and slammed Harbhajan Singh’s reaction to the comment for which he cheekily laughed.
Let’s take a look at some of the tweets from the disappointed fans who extended their support to Gautam Gambhir:
We all very well know how much anti Indian sentiments Shahid Afridi has but why in world are Vikrant and Bhajji laughing at his non sense about Gambhir. Maybe the political lineage has stopped Bhajji to speak for his Indian Cricket teammate pic.twitter.com/4ZfR9T9Q3A

It’s such a shame that both @vikrantgupta73 & @harbhajan_singh instead of countering Shahid Afridi, were laughing along when he was mocking a fellow Indian @GautamGambhir. Try this with Afridi for a fellow Pakistani !! pic.twitter.com/K9J9qgehvN

Shahid Afridi saying such things about Gautam Gambhir just for cheap publicity. Gautam Gambhir was very much loved by Indian Team Members. Grow up # Shahid Afridi.

@harbhajan_singh We all know that Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir both of them are your friend and today you prioritised Afridi over Gambhir. Shame! You'll never get a good friend like GG… You're a traitor! https://t.co/JmGUzwrI10

Gautam Gambhir fought with the entire Pakistani media for Virat Kohli! But our media @vikrantgupta73 and ex cricketer @harbhajan_singh both who are close friends of Gautam Gambhir are busy laughing at Shahid Afridi’s nonsense???
Unbelievable!
We love you GG❣️🇮🇳@GautamGambhir

If according to Shahid Afridi, everyone in Indian Team dislikes Gautam Gambhir, then consider me as an ICT hater

Team Indian players don't like Gautam Gambhir said by Shahid Afridi…
U are the person who said u will not allow ur daughters to play games.
He is better father than u who encourage his daughters to do what they like…I don't think so u can be even hero for ur own daughters— Mahima (@im_mahima) August 28, 2022
People has so much respect for his contributions to Indian cricket & country @GautamGambhir The one who had 'laughed' at the nonsense are equally offender as the person who was speaking. There should definitely be some action to avoid such talks. Disgraceful. @BCCI @bhogleharsha
