Players from India and Pakistan often end up being great friends outside the cricketing field despite having a brutal clash on the field. However, there have been many instances when the Indian players or the Pakistani players have taken it deep and ended up becoming enemies outside the field too.
Gautam Gambhir has always been India's saviour in difficult situations when it comes to batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. In the year 2007, the left-handed opener had an ugly scuffle with former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi. That incident is still considered to be one of the worst fights between Indian players and Pakistani players. The controversy is still afresh and fans get emotional when they recall the incident that happened 15 years ago.
The Pakistani veteran was called on a debate show with a Pakistani news channel and Harbhajan Singh was one of the participants in the show. Afridi recollected the incident and made a comment on Gambhir stating that the latter's character was so bad that even Indians hate him for the same. The fans were unhappy with the comment and it turned ugly when Harbhajan Singh laughed at the former Pakistani skipper's comment.
"I don't have any fight as such with any Indian player. Gautam (Gambhir) and I have clashed on social media some times. I would say that Gautam is such a character that even the Indian players don't like him. My overall experience of playing against India has been great," Afridi said on the show. The former Indian spinner did not spare a thought and laughed at the comment right away which did not go well with the Indian fans.
This caused a lot of uproars on Twitter and the Indian supporters started expressing their love for the former Indian opener. A few of them questioned Afridi's intent and slammed Harbhajan Singh's reaction to the comment for which he cheekily laughed.
Let's take a look at some of the tweets from the disappointed fans who extended their support to Gautam Gambhir:
