After the conclusion of the CWG 2022, India's Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hosted the Indian contingent of the Commonwealth Games 2022 at his residence on Saturday. It is worth mentioning that the Indian contingent performed admirably at the games and ended up winning sixty-one medals for India. India bagged a total of 22 Gold medals, 16 Silver medals and 23 Bronze medals.
After meeting PM Modi, Mirabai Chanu told to ANI that she felt empowered to represent India. She added that she feels motivated and wanted to win more medals for India at International events.
The Gold medalist mentioned that people were unaware of the weightlifting sport, earlier, but the tables have turned now. She also revealed that the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, also interacted with them before leaving for the Birmingham event.
"Earlier people weren't aware of weightlifting, now there are players who are coming into weightlifting. PM Modi interacted with us before we left for the Commonwealth games. We feel empowered and are motivated to perform for India," Mirabai Chanu told ANI.
At the games, in the first attempt, Mirabai Chanu lifted 84kg in the snatch category. And she came back to lift a record 88kg for India. It was a record that made every Indian proud.
