Pakistan and South Africa locked horns with each other at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Pakistan did not get off to a great start as they lost Mohammad Rizwan early in the piece. Mohammad Harris entertained in a wonderful cameo of 28 off just 11 balls with two fours and three sixes. At 40-3, it was looking pear-shaped for the Men in Green.
Mohammad Nawaz received the innings with a counterattacking 28 off 22 balls with four fours and one six. Then Pakistan got back into the game with two amazing knocks from Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed who scored 52 off 22 balls with three fours and four sixes and 51 off 35 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Even though the South African bowlers struck back at the end, Pakistan finished strongly on 186-9 in their 20 overs. Nortje starred for South Africa with the ball as he picked up 4-41 in his four overs.
In the second innings, Temba Bavuma finally got going for South Africa and scored a 36 ball 19 with four fours and one six. But that was not enough as Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi combined together to pick up the first four wickets between them for just 69 runs on the board.
After eight overs, the rain came down and the match was reduced to 14 overs and the revised target for South Africa was 73 runs from 30 balls. South Africa could not get going after the rain interruption as the Pakistan bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals to keep South Africa down to just 108-9 after 14 overs were completed.
Harris Rauf had a rare off day as he went for 44 runs in his three overs and picked up only a solitary wicket. Pakistan came hard at South Africa and eventually won a rain-curtailed encounter by 33 runs. Shaheen and Shadab were the pick of the bowlers as they picked up 3-14 in his three overs and 2-16 in his two overs respectively.
