India and Bangladesh locked horns again in the second Test at Dhaka. On a pitch which had a tinge of green and looked like a wicket for the pacers, India dropped Kuldeep Yadav and handed a comeback to Jaydev Unadkat. Bangladesh were going strong at one stage on 213-5 but India came back strongly to dismiss Bangladesh for just 227.
Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin picked 4 wickets each for India in the first innings. Then in the second innings India started off on a rough note at 72-3, But Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer stitched a valuable partnership and bailed India out of trouble. Pant scored 93 and Shreyas Iyer scored 87.
Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam picked up 4 wickets each and kept India’s score down to just 314 in the first innings. India had a lead of 87 runs.
In the second innings, Bangladesh battled hard to get to 231. They were led by Zakir Hasan who scored 51 off 135 balls. Then down the order, Litton Das formed a partnership with Nurul Hasan to bring Bangladesh from 159-7 to 219-8. Taskin Ahmed also played a wonderful hand of 31 off 46 balls with four fours.
India were set a target of 145 in the fourth innings. On a pitch that was spinning and where it was difficult to bat, Bangladesh made 145 look like 350. They made India work for every run. India needed 100 runs at the end of Day 3. Mehidy Hasan picked up 5-63 in the second innings and then India were looking down in the dumps at 74-7 when Axar Patel was dismissed.
Then India found heroes in Ashwin and Iyer who put together for India the highest 8th wicket stand in the 4th innings for India. Iyer scored a valuable 29 off 46 balls with four fours. Ashwin was sensational with the bat as he scored a superb 42 off 62 balls with four fours and one six. In the end, India romped home by three wickets.
Bangladesh were wonderful through the Dhaka Test match but, they could not break the partnership between Ashwin and Iyer which could have given them a famous win against India. It can be safely said that the partnership between Ashwin and Iyer proved to be a game changer for India.
