The seventh match of the Indian 2023 was played between the Delhi-based franchise and the defending champions Gujarat. The Hardik Pandya led-side registered an excellent win against the Shikhar Dhawan-led team as they defeated them by 6 wickets. This was the second consecutive defeat for Delhi, while Gujarat has registered two consecutive wins in the tournament so far.

Delhi's young opener Prithvi Shaw, once again, disappointed the fans as he scored only 7 runs. Speaking of the same, former India opener Virender Sehwag was furious over Shaw's poor performance and said that he should learn something from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. However, Delhi's assistant coach, Ajit Agarkar lashed out back at Sehwag and defended his team's openers.

"They've (Prithvi and Sarfaraz) made runs in the past and in general. We are talking about a guy who has scored a century on Test debut. I don’t think we batted well, So why point out one or two guys? None of our top order did well. Really no one got going. I mean, in both games we’ve not begun at the top as other teams have and you can see the difference.

"So there’s no point picking individuals. Collectively, we’ve not been good enough on both nights and you need to improve because you’re playing against some good teams. So credit to Gujarat but, you know, we need to improve collectively as a group as a batting unit to get better results," the former India pacer said in the post-match press conference.

It’s about adjustment and these guys have done it before: Ajit Agarkar

Delhi played their first match against the Lucknow-based franchise in which they suffered a loss by 50 runs. Shaw scored 12 runs in that match and was a complete flop in the second match as well. Agarkar mentioned that the team management is pretty confident that Shaw will get it right in the remaining matches.

"We just need to apply for better and better performances. So no, again, you’re talking about two people who got heaps of runs and there's no doubt that there are different standards when you play domestic cricket and come to the Indian T20 League. But because you've got many runs, you have been there before. It’s about adjustment and these guys have done it before. It's not like they are playing for the first time. So we're pretty confident that we get it right," he added.
