ATK Mohun Bagan, the Indian Super League (ISL) heavyweight, have rejuvenated their squad this year with numerous star signings and one of them includes Brendan Hamill, the defender. With regard to the defender, he is a part of the Australian U-20 squad and has been faring well for the team.

Juan Ferrando’s men left no stone unturned since their debut season in 2020 to be a part of the ISL knockouts. Hamill said ahead of the season opener against Chennaiyin FC that the side has learnt a lot from the AFC Champions League and the Durand Cup. He added that they will do all they can to meet the expectations of fans.

On being asked if he felt pressurized on joining the club, the defender said that he was delighted to be a part of the club and added that he wanted to do well for the Mariners.

“Not really, we have a clear goal and process in front of us, and we’ve worked very hard as a team, as a unit, throughout the pre-season. There are always going to be adaptations throughout, with new players coming in and adjusting to the new surroundings but they are all aware of the winning mentality and the expectations of this big club,” Hamill said in the press conference.

The potential that I see is huge: Hamill

On being asked if he loved playing with Indian players, the defender said that he was excited and lauded the potential that the Indian players had. Further, the Australian said that he had a role in the team.

“It’s definitely an adaptation. The first four weeks I was still adapting to the team, but from what I see in the training, we’ve got some good local and Indian players. The potential that I see is huge. The training sessions are hard and competitive. We all want to win,” said the defender further.

“I have a job, I have a role. We all have roles and we are all working hard. We’ve got good players. Hopefully, these boys can keep working hard and get selected for the national team,” Hamill added.
