Senior India batter KL Rahul is going through a difficult phase in his career, both on and off the field. Coming after a poor outing with Team India, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper's fate was similar in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. To make matters worse, the 32-year-old was forced to miss the mid-season and was ruled out of the Test Championship final after suffering a knee injury during LSG's game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

After Rahul's exit from the tournament, Krunal Pandya took over as captain and led the team till the eliminator. The Lucknow-based franchise lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 81 runs, concluding the season at the same point as the previous year. The 16th edition of the league has reached its business end, with the title race down to three teams: MI, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Gujarat Titans (GT).

Meanwhile, a video of a four-year-old fan naming the ten captains of IPL franchises on a TV screen is going viral on social media. Someone is heard asking the cute kid to pick his favourite player among them, and he takes a moment to point out and name LSG captain Rahul.

The viral video caught the attention of the wicketkeeper-batter who responded with a heartwarming gesture to the little fan. He expressed his love for the child and promised a signed jersey to make the moment more memorable. “That’s so sweet. (red heart emoji) Drop me a DM with your address. I’d be delighted to give him my signed jersey,” Rahul replied to the video.

Rahul undergoes rehabilitation at NCA

Rahul injured his right thigh when rushed to save a boundary hit by RCB captain Faf du Plessis off a Marcus Stoinis delivery. He was finding it difficult to walk and lay on the ground for some time in pain. The right-hander was then taken off the ground with the help of the team physio.

Earlier this month, after a successful surgery, Rahul took to social media to update on his health, saying that he is officially on the road to recovery and is determined to get back on the field. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru under the supervision of Indian Cricket Board doctors and physios.

“Hi everyone, I just got done with my surgery – it was successful. A big thank you to the doctors and medical staff for making sure I was comfortable and everything went smoothly. I’m officially on the road to recovery now. I’m determined to get back to my best and get back on the field. Onwards and upwards!”, Rahul wrote.
