Argentina came back rising from the dead after being defeated 2-1 in their opening encounter by Saudi Arabia. They faced off against Mexico in what was a virtual do-or-die clash for them to keep their hopes alive in FIFA World Cup 2022. Argentina came out all guns blazing and kept the ball in possession and also got their passes spot on.

Both teams failed to grab onto their chances in the opening half of the game. However, Lionel Messi came in and changed things by scoring the all-important goal to give Argentina the lead in the 64th minute. A low left-footed shot from Messi went over the Mexican goalkeeper and into the net. Then there was some fightback from Mexico. But in the 87th minute, Enzo Fernandez scored another goal to seal the deal for them in this all-important clash.

After the game against Mexico, the Argentinians celebrated wildly in their locker room, as they were seen singing a song together. The players were jumping with joy after having had a result go their way in a vital clash. The players were also seen having drinks and making merry. It has indeed been a stunning turnaround for Argentina, who were down in the dumps after their loss to Saudi Arabia a few days back.

Argentina, a step closer to knockouts

With this hard-fought win from Argentina, their chances have increased for qualification into the round of 16. But, they have to ensure that they put their best foot forward against Poland and beat them in their next encounter.

"It is a weight off our shoulders. We have peace of mind and it is back in our hands again. I think the first half was difficult due to the situation and our need to win. We could not find space. We were not moving the ball from side to side." said Messi said after the match in an interview,

"But in the second half, we started doing what we stand for. We started to find space between the lines and then the goal changed the game. We needed to win but the game had to be played this way. We had to win to give everyone peace of mind and to be able to approach the Poland game in a different way," added the Argentina skipper.
