Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga on August 15 announced his retirement from Test cricket as he seeks to prolong his career in the limited-over format of the game.  Hasaranga recently missed the LPL 2023 final due to injuries, but still, his team won the championship. He was outstanding all season long, winning the best batter and bowler titles, among many others. According to reports, he is also set to miss the 2023 Asia Cup. If this is the case, Sri Lanka will suffer greatly by losing their premier bowler in their own backyard.

Leading spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who picked up a thigh niggle ahead of the LPL final, could potentially miss at least two matches of his team in the Asia Cup.
