Umran Malik was a find for the Hyderabad franchise at the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League. He played the last three games in that edition and made world take notice of his pace ability to clock 150 kmph.

India had found a new pace bowling hero to add to their arsenal. He then had a wonderful season in 2022 when he was mentored by Dale Steyn. He picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 20.18 and an economy rate of 9.03.

The man from Jammu and Kashmir also has a five-wicket haul against his name in the 2022 season. He made his T20I debut for the Men in Blue in June against Ireland. On Friday, 22 November 2022, he made his ODI debut against New Zealand. The side was led by Shikar Dhawan and Umran Malik was called in when the senior players were rested.

He picked his maiden ODI wicket in the fifteenth over when he was bowling to Devon Conway. He bowled a full ball outside the off stump. Conway went for the big drive and got a faint outside edge. The ball flew to Rishabh Pant and he took it in front of his face.

He was one of the net bowlers for India at the 2021 20-20 World Cup. He received a lot of support from the cricketing fraternity and fans when he was not included in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad.

The speedster has had a wonderful start to his career. He should look to stick to his strengths and be consistent with his lines and lengths which will help him to go the long road. He needs good mentors around him like Dale Steyn so that he would become a finished product.
